| Saké |
Saké and Sushi are fancy rats residing in Michigan. Sushi has severe malocclusion and this blog details our experiences as we learn to care for a rat with dental issues. More than that though, it is a running recap of their adventures as they infiltrate our house, torment cats and dogs, and keep us up at night.

Lazy
It has been a long week, so I'm recycling a picture from this fall. I'm incredibly jealous of Saké in this picture - right now I'd just like to curl up and watch the world pass by.

The Nest Overfloweth
I noticed something peculiar the other day. The girls were asleep in their nest, yet Saké was sound asleep but also partially outside. Normally she tucks herself away, so this was unusual.
She gradually woke up as I took photos, but made no effort to move.
I'm pretty sure that if she could talk, Saké would report that I annoy her on a daily basis.

Reluctant Participants
Normally we live by a pretty regular schedule, but sometimes things are hectic and we have to fit activities in wherever possible. This includes the girls' playtime.
The other day I went to get them out of their cage in the afternoon. They were sound asleep and were not interested in my efforts to wake them up. But at the same time, if I didn't get them out of their cage then, they were not going to have another chance until the next day.
So I moved their nest to the bed, thinking that would interest them enough to climb out of their nest.

I was wrong. The most activity was that they both woke up, looked around, and quickly nestled into their bed a bit deeper.

Comfort
Sometimes all you need is a comfortable place to hang out.
Sometimes that place is a pair of shorts.

Rat Naps
We try to get the rats out to play every night (this is in addition to handling them throughout the day) and usually they are really active during this time. They'll climb, explore, jump on and off of us, etc. Last night, however, they were feeling a bit less playful.
I thought I would let them out in the bedroom and then just lay on the bed and read. Within minutes both rats had climbed into the arm of my sweatshirt and settled in. Other than Sushi occasionally popping her head out of the end of the sleeve by my hand, I didn't see (or hardly feel) anything from either one of them for the next 40 minutes. Those are some lazy rats.
