Sushi gets a lot of attention because of her teeth and resulting issues, but it isn't fair to leave Saké out. Saké is a completely normal rat, which means she's adorable, sweet, and entertaining. She took longer to socialize than Sushi (probably because she wasn't starving and had the energy to get away from us) but after a couple of weeks she was completely comfortable with us and living here and since then it's hard to walk by her cage without picking her up.

I'm always struck by how sweet her face is. |
Saké isn't a big rat but she's easily twice the size of Sushi. She is also far more cooperative when it comes to looking at her teeth.

Saké easily displays her perfectly aligned teeth. |
Saké is also far more active than Sushi, and spends most of the night running (loudly) on her wheel. She also spends her time out of the cage attempting to scale our headboard, which is a bit of a travesty since it is metal and she is definitely a bit pear shaped. She's benefitted from all the extra food we send Sushi's way.

Saké's face markings are rather striking. |
When we picked out our rats, we chose Sushi first, probably because her face was so misshapen. We were drawn to Saké's face markings and eventually chose her because she looked so unique. We chose well, I think, because we'd be hard pressed to find a nicer rat.
